If you want to get a boost on your French and explore the rich French history, culture and gastronomy, then this program is for you

My two-week homestay experience in Alsace was unforgettable. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by Thomas and his wife Ingrid, who made me feel right at home. Staying in the small village of Meyenheim allowed me to experience authentic daily life in France such as visiting the local bakery for fresh croissants.

What I appreciated most about the program was how much I was able to practice and improve my French. Every day was full of opportunities to converse, whether with locals at a family-run restaurant, with fellow visitors at cultural festivals, or with Thomas’ family while sharing stories over breakfast. My hosts were patient and encouraging, and even their son Diego took the time to show me nearby villages and talk about his own experiences living between cultures.

The excursions were equally enriching. Thomas tailored the program to my interests and he did not disappoint. I visited picturesque towns like Eguisheim and Riquewihr, explored historic sites such as the Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp and the Hartmannswillerkopf war memorial, and even crossed into Germany and Switzerland during my stay. The mixture of history, culture, and local traditions gave me a much deeper appreciation for the region.

Of course, the food and wine were highlights too—I tasted my first tarte flambée, tried regional wines like Gewurztraminer, and even discovered cheeses and pastries I’ll never forget.Looking back, I feel grateful not only for the language progress I made, but also for the authentic moments I experienced. If you want to get a boost on your French and explore the rich French history, culture and gastronomy, then this program is for you.

His teaching style is both effective and enjoyable

Learning a new language can be intimidating for anyone, and as a 70-year-old American, I certainly felt those nerves when I first embarked on this journey. However, my experience in Thomas Studer’s French immersion class was nothing short of outstanding!

From the very beginning, Thomas created a warm and welcoming environment that made it easy to engage and participate. His teaching style is both effective and enjoyable, combining in-class studies with immersive experiences in the beautiful Alsace region of France. This unique approach allowed me to not only learn the language but also to appreciate the culture and history of the area, making my education all the more enriching.

Thomas and his wife, Ingrid, were the consummate hosts. Their hospitality made me feel right at home, adding an extra layer of comfort to my learning experience. The lodging they provided was spotlessly clean and perfectly situated, offering a tranquil retreat after our long, fun-filled days of learning and exploration. It was the ideal space to relax and unwind, allowing me to recharge for the next day’s adventures.

I  highly recommend Thomas’s French immersion class to anyone, especially Americans who have a desire to learn French. His kindness and patience are truly remarkable, making it easy for students of all ages and backgrounds to thrive. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in the French language and culture, Thomas Studer’s class is the perfect choice. Thank you, Thomas and Ingrid, for an unforgettable experience!

Bonne Chance to those brave ones in your attempt to learn French!

A class with Thomas is an incredible experience

I am 70 years old and after one year of classroom study decided to do a French Immersion with Thomas.  It was a wonderful experience and worth every penny.

Thomas is a gifted teacher.  He explains concepts clearly and speaks slowly.  I was able to understand everything he said.  The classes are engaging and since it is an one-on-one class, Thomas tailored the class to my needs.  I was able to work on pronunciation and after one week felt confident to hold a basic conversation.

Thomas also tailored the daily excursions to my interests.  My excursions ranged from a medieval castle to an art museum in Basel.  Thomas’ knowledge of the attractions greatly improved my understanding and vocabulary.

Thomas frequently exceeded 8 hours of instruction plus excursion time so there is a lot of French practice.  Thomas is very generous with his time and would always ask, is there anywhere you need to go?  Thomas goes above and beyond, for example, I wanted to buy a bottle of wine.  Instead of stopping at a grocery store, we stopped at a winery for a tasting and bought a bottle there.

Thomas is always cheerful, always accommodating.  A class with Thomas is an incredible experience.

It was a week of intense learning, but also a lot of fun

I spent a week of immersive study with Thomas and « quelle bonne expérience » !  It was a week of intense learning, but also a lot of fun.  Thomas is as enthusiastic and energetic in person as he is in his videos.

Thomas began by listening to my goals and objectives for the week, and then tailored each session specifically to help me make progress.  I really felt that he heard and understood my struggles in learning French, and prepared direct and creative exercises to help me improve.

We started each day with a trip to the local boulangerie to buy viennoiseries and baguettes for breakfast.  Then there was a full morning of French studies, followed by a delicious lunch … usually at a typical Alsatian restaurant, although Thomas did cook a fantastic meal one day.

Perhaps the best part of the week were the afternoon excursions.  One day we visited a nearby charming and picturesque Alsatian village, ending the day with a wine tasting of local wines.  Another day was a visit to the art museum in Basel … and another was a lesson in history with a visit to a WWI memorial and a walk through actual trenches built during the war.  During the excursions, we talked in French in a natural and spontaneous way … and I learned so much about the culture and history of Alsace.   I can highly recommend Thomas’ Français Immersion program, although I really felt that one week was not enough time.  The week went by too fast, and I know I had more to learn from Thomas as well as more interesting sites to visit in Alsace.  So if you have the chance to spend several weeks with Thomas and his French immersion program, it would definitely be worth it !

This program and experience exceeded my expectations

I spent 5 weeks in French Immersion with Thomas and his family. Lessons were curated for me and I enjoyed wonderful excursions as well. This is a unique opportunity to learn and study French language skills while staying in a separate apt space. Many meals are shared with the family so French dialogue is practiced. This program and experience exceeded my expectations and I would return again. I encourage anyone who wants to learn or improve their French language skills to consider a homestay with Thomas.

A Memorable Immersion in Alsace with Thomas

My immersion homestay with Thomas was nothing short of spectacular. From the onset, Thomas was extremely communicative and made sure I was well-prepared and comfortable for the journey ahead. He was extremely flexible and gracious when there was a last minute change to my arrival time and destination.

The apartment is top-notch! It’s well-equipped, perfectly located to explore by bike or on foot, and just a short walk from Thomas’ own home. Every corner of this region exudes beauty, and with each excursion, I was constantly in awe of the sights.

What made this experience truly special was not just the scenery or the delectable local cuisine, but the enriching lessons and conversations I shared with Thomas. His approach was highly personalized, making the learning experience feel tailored just for me. I especially appreciated the challenge of applying newly learned vocabulary and verb tenses in my daily journals which were written, of course, en francais and reviewed/corrected with Thomas during our lesson the next morning.

But it wasn’t just Thomas who made my stay memorable. His family and friends, whom I had the pleasure to meet, were all genuinely warm and welcoming, adding another layer to my enriching experience in Meyenheim.

In summary, my time with Thomas was a combination of immersive learning, awe-inspiring views, delicious food, and genuine connections. Thomas is not just a fantastic instructor but also a wonderful host. If you’re considering a French immersion experience, I can’t recommend Thomas enough. It’s an experience I will cherish forever, and I’m sure you would too!

The mix of instruction and shared activities made the experience highly enjoyable

From walking with Thomas to the boulangerie each morning to gourmet lunches with his family, the Français Immersion program allowed me to completely ‘immerse’ in french for my week stay in Meyenheim. Thomas nicely included my husband in breakfast, lunch and our two fabulous excursions to the Ecomusée d’Alsace and hiking to Hartmannswillerkopf, an important WW1 site. The apartment he provided was charming and had a nice deck that overlooked a small river. My individual lessons with Thomas were very helpful and the mix of instruction and shared activities made the experience highly enjoyable. And it improved my french too!
